He’s had a meteoric rise up the rankings, but Italian superstar Lorenzo de Luca knows that his recent success comes from a place of hard work, dedication and perseverance.
So far this season, de Luca is the only rider to win two Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix events - after spectacular performances in Shanghai and Valkenswaard put him on the path for a possible Championship podium. While the title has been secured by flying Dutchman Harrie Smolders, the battle for second and third is fiercer than ever, with de Luca caught in a high stakes race against Christian Ahlmann (GER), compatriot Alberto Zorzi (ITA) and Dutch rider Maikel van der Vleuten (NED).
With one event left to go, all eyes will be on the top riders in Doha this November to see who will finish closest to Smolders.
"When you win people come to you, but in the end a real rider, and I think, a good person reacts good in the bad moments."
de Luca is also an instrumental part of the Global Champions League team, the Rome Gladiators, teaming up with Laura Kraut (USA), Marlon Zanotelli (BRA), Abdel Said (EGY), Olivier Philippaerts (BEL) and Emma Heise (USA) this season to battle it out for the team Championship.
We caught up with the World Number 2 at the Longines Global Champions Tour of Rome just a couple of weeks ago, a special event for the Italian rider. Check out this exclusive interview here...
