Scene is set for stunning LGCT Grand Prix of Shanghai

The power-packed line up for the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Shanghai will feature eight out of the world’s Top 10 riders. 

With €1.25 million in prize money on offer at the event and €500,000 for the Grand Prix, the top-level competition with be fierce with the battle for the overall ranking on the championship circuit already tight at the top with only 20 points separating the first eight riders.

The cream of show jumping will be going all out for glory in the 1.60m showdown in the 60m x 80m sand arena in the shadow of Shanghai’s skyscrapers.  

The heavyweight contenders include World No2 Kent Farrington (USA), who won the Miami Beach leg. He will be up against Daniel Deusser (GER), Christian Ahlmann (GER), Kevin Staut (FRA) and Scott Brash (GBR), Ludger Beerbaum (GER), Marcus Ehning (GER), Bertram Allen (IRE), Simon Delestre (FRA), Lauren Hough (USA), Ben Maher (GBR), Harrie Smolders (NED).

World No8 Marcus Ehning is making his debut in Shanghai and also on the Global Champions League and said: “It is the first time for me here in Shanghai and it is amazing. Being in the GCL is new for me and I am excited to see how the season goes, it is now really on the top level. They are really big classes and everybody wants to be good. You need your best horses to be in front.”

So far Ramzy Al Duhami (KSA) and Darragh Kenny (IRE) have produced strong wins in early classes in Shanghai and Simon Delestre and Julien Epaillard showed formidable form as the St Tropez Pirates team winning Round 1 of the Global Champions League yesterday.

The Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Shanghai features the top 25 riders who qualified individually in the Global Champions League Final. They will battle for a place in the jump off and a chance to put valuable ranking points on the leaderboard.
