As the Longines Global Champions Tour 2016 International TV Highlight series continues, the next three instalments of what was a phenomenal season have been released and are available to watch via YouTube.
Episode 8, and it is Scott Brash (GBR) and Hello Forever who triumphed in an epic battle set against the stunning backdrop of Cannes, taking top honours in the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Cannes presented by Haras des Grillons. The two-time LGCT Champion of Champions took a sensational win against a star-studded field, which included 8 out of the top 10 riders in the world.
Four of the fastest riders on the circuit squared up for the finale against the clock and it was the last rider Scott who produced a brilliant and daring performance, drawing gasps from the crowd, as he delivered the winning round.“He’s a real trier – but I think it can get a lot smoother yet!” said Scott. “It’s still early days with him. He can make my life a bit difficult at times but the best is yet to come with him.”
The British national anthem rang out to celebrate Scott’s second victory in the Cannes Grand Prix – his last victory came with Hello Sanctos back in 2014. Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS) with Lintea Tequila rode a brave and beautiful round to take the silver medal and Daniel Deusser (GER) continued his run of good form taking third spot on the podium with Equita Van’t Zorgvliet. Magical Monaco is the stunning backdrop for episode 9, and it was a spell-binding Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix du Prince de Monaco presented by Sapinda, with speed demon Emanuele Gaudiano (ITA) and his impressive grey horse Caspar 232 claiming top honours at the prestigious event after an incredible nine rider jump-off. Talking about what it means to win a LGCT Grand Prix, an elated Emanuele said: “For every rider to win a Grand Prix is good, but to win a Global Champions Tour Grand Prix is special - it’s amazing.” Compatriot Piergiorgio Bucci (ITA) took a strong silver medal with his horse Casallo Z, with the horse’s sire Casall ASK finishing in third with Swedish rider Rolf-Göran Bengtsson.
Christian Alhmann (GER) keeps hold of his lead as overall ranking leader, still on a tally of 209 points. However the Championship fight has intensified, with Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS) closing the gap to the top German rider, moving up to 169 points overall, and Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (SWE) just a whisker away in third with 160 points. Drop scores now come into play, with the top eight results counting towards the final LGCT Champion of Champions title battle, and with six events remaining it’s set to be an exhilarating gallop to the finish to see who will come out on top.
The Grand Prix took place in the presence of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco and other royal guests including Queen Noor of Jordan, Princess Caroline of Hannover, daughter Charlotte Casiraghi, and Princess Beatrice of York. Global business figures including Anuncio Ortega watched as the action unfolded, with a glittering turnout of Monaco society and guests from around the world. Prince Albert was joined at the prize giving by Grand Prix presenting sponsor Sapinda Chairman of the Board Lars Windhorst at the prestigious ceremony. Watch the full episode here:
Episode 10 sees an incredible 2016 Longines Global Champions Tour - Longines Paris Eiffel Jumping, which had spectators on the edge of their seats throughout the exhilarating Grand Prix. Legends of the sport Rolf-Göran Bengtsson and Casall ASK showcased a masterful Grand Prix to win Gold ahead of leading French riders, World Number 2 Simon Delestre (FRA) and World Number 4 Pénélope Leprevost (FRA). A five rider jump-off saw the very best athletes in the sport battle it out for the 10th round of the LGCT Championship season, with spectators witnessing a brilliant showcase of top sport and entertainment.
The LGCT Ranking battle has tightened dramatically following the Swedish rider's win, with Rolf now just 9 points away from current long-term leader Christian Ahlmann (GER) who sits on 209 points overall. There is a nail-biting nine points between the top three, with Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS) also impoving her overall points score to sit in third on 197 points overall.
The beautiful VIP lodge was packed with international guests keen to enjoy top sport in the stunning ‘City of Light’. French society was out in force and mingling with guests including Bruce Springsteen, Salma Hayek and her husband luxury tycoon Francois Pinault and business leaders from across the world. It was a glittering night with gourmet cuisine and a luxury interior courtesy of Bentley and Fendi.
It was a first round of all weathers as the 47 world class riders took to the sand arena for the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Paris. Kicking off in brilliant sunshine, the early riders took their chance to earn a place in round two, with Uliano Vezzani’s course a true test for the top combinations in the world. Many of the fences were set at the maximum 1 meter 60 testing the horses’ power and agility, watch below to find out how it unfolded.
