Scorching First Day of Top Sport at LGCT Rome

The first of the four day festival of show jumping kicked off in style at the spectacular Stadio dei Marmi, with three CSI2* PremiuMares classes opening the weekend’s action in Rome. Set against the stunning Stadio dei Marmi, with 59 marble statues depicting various Olympic sports, today’s action featured blue skies, scorching temperatures and top level sport from start to finish, with the promise of more as the weekend unfolds. 

After a fast and furious introduction to the weekend of top sport, the initial 1.15m CSI2* PremiuMares class was won by local rider, Alice Bertoli (ITA) with Up And Go du Parc, who proudly stood as the Italian National anthem reverberated around the stadium. The second 1.30m competition was also set against the clock was won by her compatriot Eugenio Grimaldi (ITA) with Quidam S Moonlight Dancing, with the pair stopping the clock in an impressive 32.73s, breaking the 33s mark and taking the win in style. 

The final CSI2* class of the day was the 1.40m presented by PremiuMares, the largest two phase special competition of the day. It was a resounding hat-trick of Italian success, as Mirco Casadei (ITA) and Kandoo swept the floor with the competition, taking home the third win of the day and cementing the Italian prowess on display. 

With the high calibre of talent in action throughout the weekend, Longines Global Champions Tour of Rome promises to be another spectacular weekend of top sport and entertainment. Tomorrow’s competition kicks off at 08:15 with the first of the CSI5* classes taking place at 13:15 local time, which will see many of the world’s top riders flexing their muscles for the first time this weekend in Rome.
