World’s Top Horses Raring to go at LGCT Rome

As the final preparations are made for the 13th round of action on the Longines Global Champions Tour, many of the world’s top horses have successfully passed the vet check in Rome ahead of this weekend’s top sporting action. Just weeks after the 2016 Rio Olympics, many of the very best horses and riders in the world now look to the stunning Stadio dei Marmi, where the next crucial leg of the 2016 Championship battle. 

Last year’s winner Rolf-Göran Bengtsson (SWE) brings his top stallion Casall ASK, as well as up and coming young grey stallion Clarimo ASK. With a tantalising 25 point gap to LGCT Ranking Leader Edwina Tops-Alexander (AUS), it’s set to be another exhilarating Grand Prix as the Tour picks up pace towards the final events of the year. Current leader Edwina will also be bringing out the big guns, with top mare Caretina de Joter in action this weekend. 

World Number 3 Simon Delestre (FRA) brings back his lighting fast chestnut gelding Chesall Zimequest, a combination who won the CSI5* feature class at Rome’s debut in 2015. Icon of the sport Ludger Beerbaum (GER) will ride Chiara 222, his grey mare who won him the LGCT Grand Prix of Chantilly earlier this year and who looks to be on phenomenal form this season. 

Home hero Emanuele Gaudiano (ITA) will compete with two of his top horses, the impressive Caspar 232, with whom he competed at the 2016 Rio Olympics just a few weeks ago, and Guess 6. Luciana Diniz (POR) will compete with her Grand Prix winning stallion Winningmood, a combination who proved to be a force to be reckoned with throughout 2015, and John Whitaker (GBR) will also compete with his Olympic mount Ornellaia. Lauren Hough (USA) brings the eye-catching Cornet 39 as well as Waterford, and Laura Kraut (USA) will compete with Cavalia and Zeremonie, two horses who have performed well on the Tour so far. 

Young talent Bertram Allen (IRL) will compete with his experienced chestnut Romanov, with whom he won the LGCT Grand Prix of Paris in 2015, as well as rising star Hector van d’Abdijhoeve. The list of top horses continue as Marco Kutscher (GER) brings his Grand Prix of Valkenswaard winning stallion Van Gogh, Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) rides VDL Groep Arera C, as well as VDL Groep Quatro, and compatriot Harrie Smolders (NED) will ride Don VHP Z
