LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR will make a thrilling debut in Madrid, Spain’s capital city and third largest city from May 3 - 5. This will be the opening event of the much-anticipated 2013 LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR season. As a prestigious addition to the LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR championship circuit, Madrid is a globally significant capital and candidate to host the Olympic Games in 2020. Buzzing with sophistication and energy, Madrid’s status as a global city is cemented by its vibrant cultural scene where fashion, the arts and entertainment flourish.

The city’s exclusive country club, the Club de Campo de Villa de Madrid, will host a leg of the prestigious LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR series at its equestrian centre, where the best riders and horses in the world will compete in the 5* LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR OF MADRID. The Club is a well-known venue in the City and an important meeting place for those passionate about equestrianism.

With excellent equestrian facilities and two golf courses, including one designed by the late Seve Ballesteros, the venue will be another prestigious new addition to the LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR calendar bringing all the high level competition and glamour of world class show jumping to the historic Spanish capital. The show ground is only a few kilometers from the famous monuments and architecture of the city, including the Plaza de Cibeles with its stunning Cibeles Fountain.

As a prominent international capital, Madrid offers a great variety of entertainment, culture, restaurants and shopping for participants, sponsors and the public at the opening event of the LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR season. Madrid’s historic monuments from the Royal Palace to the Alcala Gate are close by in the centre and you can take a trip back in time with a walk around the streets of the old quarter, stopping off at some of its famous cafes and terraces.

And, of course, your stay in Madrid during the LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR event would not be complete without visiting some of its incredible museums, including the world renowned Prado Museum, Thyssen Museum and Reina Sofia.
