Biography
Rodrigo’s first great jumping year came in 1992 when at 19 years of age he was the youngest rider to take part in the Olympic Games at Barcelona, finishing 9th individually. In 1998 he became World Champion and has won three World Cup Finals in a row on the great Baloubet de Rouet. he was also Individual champion at the 2004 Olympic Games with the same horse. But if any man was born to ride it is Rodrigo. His father and his uncle were both legends of the sport in the 60's and 70's.
His parents, Nelson and Regina, are "cariocas" (born in Rio de Janeiro) and they moved to Chantilly, France in 1965. As Rodrigo's career began to blossom, he competed alongside his father in the Brazilian team for several Championships and even jumped off against him for the prestigious title of the Grand Prix of Aachen in 1994. Nelson "Neco" Pessoa is a living legend in the sport and it was his selfless support that truly catapulted Rodrigo into the winner's circle - 40 years of work passed on to the next generation....
