Biography

Eric started at the bottom of the sport at a young age and has worked his way to the top of the world. As of July 2008, he was ranked #3 on the FEI Rolex world show jumping rider rankings. His ascent began August 2007 when he burst into the top-ten in the world becoming thEe first Canadian to reach that landmark since Canada’s show jumping legend, Ian Millar did so nearly 20 years ago.

Born and raised in Montreal, Eric got his start in the horse business working in exchange for the opportunity to ride, eventually ending up as a working student for world-renowned coach George Morris in New Jersey. Lamaze’s early work gave him experience as a “catch rider”, picking up mounts on horses with which he was unfamiliar. Today, he is known for his ability to ride many different types of horses. He now operates his own stable, Torrey Pines, in Schomberg, Ontario.

Eric has represented Canada in three Pan American Games, earning two medals at the 2007 Games in Rio de Janeiro, riding Hickstead. He helped the team to a silver medal, securing Canada's spot in the team show jumping at the 2008 Olympics. When he got to Hong Kong, Eric made the most of the opportunity winning individual Gold after an exciting last round jump off with Rolf Goran Bengsston. Canada also won a Team Silver. He has also represented Canada in four World Championships and three World Cup Finals. He is a three-time national show jumping champion.

Eric , a passionate golfer, divides his time between the European and American continent. Spending the winters in Wellington, he competes in Europe in the spring and summer season. The Canadian is know to be one of the fastest riders ever, a statement underpinned by a long list of victories. A second place in the 2009 GCT Grand Prix of Rio de Janeiro is his best result on the tour, but the Olympic title in Beijing is the apex of his career.
